Large Public Power Council Commends Sen. Murkowski’s White Paper on Electric Reliability, February 12, 2014

Washington, D.C. — The Large Public Power Council (LPPC) released the following statement today applauding the efforts of Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) in releasing her white paper, Powering the Future: Ensuring that Federal Policy Fully Supports Electric Reliability.

“LPPC members share the Senator’s belief that reliable electric service is essential for economic growth in our communities.

“Considering the real implications on reliability of the electric system should be an essential component of pursuing new policies, initiatives or mandates relating to the environment, public health, energy and market regulation.

“We applaud the Senator for her leadership toward ensuring electric reliability with a focus on an orderly and smart transition to a more diversified fuel portfolio.”


LPPC represents 26 of the largest locally owned and operated not-for-profit electric systems in the United States. Our member utilities are located in 12 states and Puerto Rico and own and operate more than 86,000 megawatts of generation capacity and more than 35,000 circuit miles of high voltage transmission lines. LPPC member utilities supply electricity to some of the largest cities in the country including Los Angeles, Seattle, Omaha, Phoenix, Sacramento, Jacksonville, San Antonio, Orlando and Austin.
